Changing The Face
Of Jericho Turnpike |
|
 |
|

|
Jericho
Turnpike in Mineola has been a major thoroughfare since
its original use as a road to New York City for carrying
produce to the markets. At the turn of the century, the
road was widened for trolley and automobile traffic to
the city. Today, Jericho Turnpike continues to be a main
access road from Eastern Long Island to Queens and the
Boroughs.
JRS Architect has been located in the
Mineola area since our business began in 1986. In 1995,
JRS made its first impact
designing a new building
façade for America Homecare on Jericho Turnpike. Its
striking sleek design and bold use of color would be a
prelude of things to come both for Jericho Turnpike in
Mineola and JRS Architect.
The firm made its next
impact on Jericho Turnpike with the ground-up design and
construction of Sperry Associates Federal Credit Union’s
new headquarters building. The building is a
contemporary fusion of old materials and new design.
Asymmetrical windows and a curved skylight set it apart
from other structures nearby, yet the brick and stucco
façade easily blend with neighboring
buildings.
In 2001, JRS Architect moved its
headquarters to Jericho Turnpike. The new building is
situated on the Southwest corner
of Sheridan Blvd. Its contemporary use of curtainwall
glass and Beige faux stone façade add elegance to the
corner. The JRS Building is not just a structure, it is
an investment in the community.
In 2004, JRS
Architect once again left its mark on Jericho Turnpike
and designed a new Bank Branch for Roslyn Savings Bank.
The new building is designed in an updated mission
style. Craftsman style window mullions are finished in
red and invigorate the traditional brick and stucco with
contemporary flair.
When asked about his impact
on Jericho Turnpike, Mr. John R. Sorrenti, F.A.I.A.,
says “We have been fortunate to be a part of this
community for about 20 years and are excited that we
have been able to enhance the streetscape, making it
more vibrant and conducive for business
development”. | |
