JRS used Green Globes building practices for COB’s new prototype branch. Exterior panels of recycled metals and natural stone are durable and maintenance free. Interior elements include low-flow plumbing, programmable HVAC, and wall coverings, flooring, and a metallic ceiling of recycled content. Partial 2-story design creates a sense of space greater than the small footprint would normally allow.
Charged with designing a branch that would harmonize with local architecture, JRS delivered a shingle-style building reflecting the early 20th century summer homes famous in the region. This project was bestowed with an Archi award for Excellence in Architecture by the Long Island AIA.
JRS designed Madison’s signature branch to appeal to its target audience–female customers. The interior could be a living room in a well-appointed home with soft hues, warm finishes, plasma TVs and fireplace.
Drawing upon the city’s storied past as the Riviera of the East, JRS designed this branch to reflect the oldest most majestic homes in the area. Red tiled roofing and tapered columns lend a moorish/mediterranean air which is further developed in the bank’s interior.
Planned as a premier Long Island location, the branch’s themes of bounty and stability are richly expressed through its geometric structures as well as a visual feast of terrazzo, embossed ceilings, woven wood inlays, palm-leaf carpet and bronze accent pieces.
Rather than the more standard approach of removing existing columns, we decided to adapt them as a design feature of the branch, saving dollars and time. Wrapped with metallic composite enclosures, they accentuate the strength of the building grid and symbolize the stability of the bank.
